Repairs on the Ajil oilfield that was razed by insurgents from the Islamic State are now complete, according to a statement made on Tuesday by Oil Minister Jabar al-Luiabi.
Currently, the oilfield is generating 7,000 (bpd) barrels of oil daily. Al-Luiabi’s statement indicated that the amount will rise to 17,000 bpd before the year comes to a close. After the prior round of significant repairs, Ajil was already producing nearly 100 million cubic feet of oil per day.
The Ajil oilfield, located close to Tikrit, was incinerated in 2015 by the militants. In December 2017, Iraqi forces claimed victory over the Islamic State by forcing the final holdouts out of Iraq.
